Chief Supt Christopher Johnson

Chris is currently Commander for West Birmingham, and he also leads two projects as SRO, the first focuses on WMP’s approach to Local Policing, the second uses technology to enhance vehicle capability.
In 1991, Chris joined WMP at Acocks Green working both in uniform and CID roles, and later promoted to Sergeant covering Coventry and then Bournville pioneering partnership and civil interventions work for the city, before becoming Staff Officer to the Deputy Chief Constable
Chris took up a position as Sector Inspector for Ladywood and Winson Green where he developed his understanding of and sees the positive impact that local policing has within local communities. Two years later, Chris was posted to Chief Inspector within Covert Policing before moving on to Detective Chief Inspector at Kings Heath.
Chris joined the Performance Review Department as Superintendent in 2008, he then transferred to Birmingham East LPU leading both the Crime/Operations and Local Policing functions. In 2013, Chris lead as Programme Director, the force’s change programme that reshaped public contact across the force area as well as taking position as the Deputy Head of our Force Contact Department.
Chris has a Master’s Degree in Police Leadership and Management, is a trained and accredited Specialist Firearms Commander, a Public Order Silver Commander, and is the lead for WMP for Hate Crime.
