Dr Simon Pemberton

Simon is Head of Department at the School of Social Policy, University of Birmingham. He has worked on issues relating to the measurement and lived experience of low income since 2002; when he worked on the Unicef funded project Poverty in the Developing World. He has published widely on these issues in academic journals such as Journal of Social Policy, Critical Social Policy, and Policy & Politics. Most recently he has been a team member of the project ‘Poverty and Social Exclusion Survey 2012’ funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, and led the work programme ‘Life on a Low Income in Austere Times’. Currently Simon is leading a project investigating the impact of low income on social mobility funded by the Walcot Foundation.
